The MK-5 MOD 0, is an inflatable life preserver and equipment vest. The preserver is installed on a mesh vest constructed of MIL-SPEC materials. The mesh vest includes several pockets for necessary equipment. Closure of the vest is accomplished with a non-mettallic zipper and Fastex buckles with adjusters for easy fit and adjustment. Closure of the life preserver cover is accomplished with hook and pile, and will not restrict the bladder from emerging from the cover when inflated. A protective hood with face shield is also provided to protect the user from splashing waves.

Application
The MK-5 Life Preserver is designed as a constant wear utility life preserver to be worn by surface or aircrew operators. The life preserver is enclosed in a durable protective cover which permits the crew to wear the life preserver in a routine working environment without damaging the bladder.

Performance
The MK-5 MOD 0 will right the subject to face up position in less than 5 seconds and provides USCG/SOLAS freeboard mouth clearance and torso positioning. Total buoyancy is 41 pounds.
