The MK-124 (MOD 0) marine smoke and illumination signal is intended for either day or night signaling by aircraft personnel downed at sea or land. The signal is a one hand operable device, intended for rescue use. One end emits orange smoke for day use; the other emits a red flare that is visible day or night. Its small size and weight permits it to be carried in life vest or flight suit pockets and on life rafts.

Configuration
The MK-124 MOD 0 signal consists of an aluminum cylinder fitted at each end with a protective platic cap. The flame end has three prominent heads across the face for easy nighttime identification. The cylinder is clearly labeled to provide operating instructions.
