Description
The PCU-16/P Torso Harness is a single-unit assembly designed for wear by aircrewman aboard an aircraft in which the parachute is installed in the ejection seat. Specifically, this harness is intended for use in such aircraft as the F-16, F-5, F-4, A-7 and OV-10 series. When aboard the aircraft and seated, the aircrewman attaches the quick-release fittings on the parachute risers to the fittings on the harness.
Configuration The harness consists of a lightweight, flexible, nylon framework mounted on a nylon vest and utilizing a sectional main sling. There are three quick adjustment points (ejector snaps and v-rings) and 2 canopy releases. In addition, two secondary adjusters are provided to the hip links. Proper fit of the harness is determined by the proper mainsling length for the wearer's torso. Optional accessories include emergency radio beacon, emergency survival light and personnel lowering devices which may be installed on the harness. *OPTIONAL LOWERING DEVICE The PCU-10/P Personnel Lowering Device enables the aircrewman to lower to the ground when entanglement by trees, powerlines, or rough terrain make normal parachute landing impossible. The PCU-10/P is designed to be an integral part of the PCU-16/P Torso Harness and replaces the standard back pad when installed. The PCU-10/P consists of a nylon pack with snap closure for easy release. The lowering device line is constructed of 2300 pound tensile strength tubular nylon, 150 feet in length. The last 25 feet are dyed in a different color to indicate the approach to the end of the line. The PCU-10/P hardware is constructed of cadmium plated high-grade steel. There is a breaking device through which the line is fed, allowing the aircrewman a safe ground landing. DETAILED PARTS BREAKDOWN
