The Red Parachute Rocket MK8 is a hand-held distress signal ejecting a parachute suspended red flare at 984 ft altitude, major features include:
- An aluminum foil seal at the top and an 'O' ring at the bottom of the signal to give greater environmental protection
- The trigger-lever operation includes an un-cocked striker mechanism and a safety pin to prevent inadvertent ignition. The rocket casing is of a tough plastic to ensure optimum protection and reliability in severe marine weather conditions.

This signal is approved by International Maritime Organization for use on ships of all types and in ship's lifeboats and liferafts.
Although the signal is normally fired vertically to provide maximum range of visibility, in low cloud conditions (below 984 ft), it is advisable to fire the rocket at an angle of 45-degree downwind.
Instructions- Remove end caps and safety pin
- Lever drops down
- Hold signal firmly. Push lever upwards. Fire vertically, slightly downwind.
