Description
The basic Automatic Seat Style Parachute Assembly, LSI part number PAR-8000-00, consists of the following: a standard C-9 canopy, a harness and pack assembly which incorporates a D-handle ripcord grip, two PCU-4/P canopy releases, and an F-1B (Class 2 or 4) automatic ripcord release which is installed in the pack.
Application The SA-20 is designed primarily for use in high-speed aircraft, i.e. B-57, T-33 and F-111. Aircraft that have not been refitted with back style parachutes may also utilize this type of parachute. Function As the aircrew member exits the aircraft, the automatic ripcord release is armed manually or automatically (depending upon application). At 14,000 feet (or below if the aircrew member exits the aircraft at a lower altitude), the ripcord cable is pulled by the operation of the automatic ripcord release or by manually pulling the ripcord.
